Michael Govan, the director for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), is on his phone discussing large sums of money. He apparently does this a lot. “That’s twenty million, plus the seven million that’s already been raised,” he says, pacing around his office. “It’s doable!” He hangs up and an assistant hands him an apple. “Lunch,” he explains, smiling. “I hope you don’t mind.” It’s 6.00pm. Straight after this interview, he has to press the flesh at a private opening of a new LACMA exhibition on the Dwan Gallery, the New York and LA galleries created by art dealer Virginia Dwan, which defined the postwar era. After more than a year on the real estate market, Miami’s Versace Mansion finally sold for $41 million in a closed-door auction this summer. Starting this month, guests of 45 Park Lane’s rooftop Penthouse Suite will receive the keys to a 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith for a half-day joyride. The turbocharged 12-cylinder, 624 hp Wraith—the fastest and most powerful Rolls Royce ever—is arguably the British marque’s most stylish model to date. Touting an athletic silhouette inspired by Italy’s 1950 Lancia Aurelia and 1967 Maserati Ghibli, the $285,000 fastback coupe is meant to appeal to drivers both youthful and sophisticated. As such, the Wraith pairs well with the new and elegant Thierry Despont–designed penthouse, which combines cerused mahogany and suede accents; custom-made furnishings in leather and silk velvet; and sweeping views of Hyde Park and London’s skyline. The 1,755-square-foot penthouse is priced at about $11,500 per night. [See More]

We recently received an eclectic penthouse design from one of our readers, that seems to blend in perfectly with the shiny Las Vegas. Mark Tracy started the design of this project with the intent to use the finest materials on every surface to create a friendly, inviting, colorful, and extravagant design for a penthouse unit in the Veer Tower of Las Vegas’ modern City Center development. This penthouse‘s primary features include a 13’ tall by 13’ wide floor-wall-ceiling glass mosaic in an ocean blue color scheme with embedded images and bordered by a glass veneer tile. In the middle of the centerpiece mosaic hangs a chandelier encased in a blue glass cube. A Blue Louise” granite table floats off the kitchen island acting first as a bar elevation and then seamlessly dropping to a lower elevation where it serves as the units primary dining area. Enjoy.

Named for the Danish word for tranquility, the Ro Armchair ($2,550 USD) features a curvy, sculptural design from Spanish designer Jaime Hayon that provides both comfort and privacy. The seat is 1.5 times as wide as your standard chair, giving you extra room to stretch and move, or sit your tablet/book/kid/laptop next to you. It'll be available in September at select retailers and comes in nine colors, broken down into traditional (black, grey, and taupe), bright (violet, blue, and yellow), and soft (light pink, sage green, and sand).
