After three dinners at Deuxave and a long conversation with the very American chef, Christopher Coombs, I still don’t have a clue what the name means. You’d think it was French for Second Avenue, even though that would be Deuxième. Certainly the voice on the answering machine, like the menu, is French-accented. The garbled message sounds like it’s saying “Gérard.” The chef and most of the staff pronounce the restaurant’s name more like “doo-wah.”
I’m not simply picking on people for their inadequate French diction; the name is more or less impossible to pronounce, anyway. But all this perplexity hints at the confusion over just what Deuxave is aiming to be: French, for sure, and high-toned. Coombs is also the chef behind Dorchester’s Dbar, and he and co-owner Brian Piccini have made it one of the go-to places in that neighborhood (where admittedly the competition isn’t steep). After Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne and Caroline de Maigret, the American singer and producer Pharrell Williams is the latest star to front Chanel’s “Gabrielle” bag campaign. Last year, he walked the runway for the brand’s Métiers d’Art show in Paris. Now, he is the first man to appear in one of the French luxury brand’s handbag ads.
The video features the “Happy” singer entering an empty concert venue, where he is soon overcome with childlike playfulness. He can be seen riding on a wheeled equipment case and balancing on a metal beam, for example, all with the “Gabrielle” bag worn cross-body and with several strings of pearls around his neck. A natural, updated successor to the brand’s EXP 9 F concept, the car is the most powerful and fastest SUV on the market. Equipped with the ability to hit 60-miles-per-hour within four seconds, the Bentayga has a top speed of 187 miles-per hour and, according to Autoblog, will be available in a seven-seat version, more efficient diesel and hybrid variants and a higher performance speed model. After more than a year on the real estate market, Miami’s Versace Mansion finally sold for $41 million in a closed-door auction this summer. For those keeping score, that’s an $83 million discount from the home’s original $125 million listing price. The infamous property was bought by the Nakash family, owners of iconic ’80s denim brand Jordache, according to The Real Deal. The Nakash’s company, VM South Beach, is the chief creditor in the mansion’s foreclosure case.The Versace Mansion had trouble finding a buyer from the get-go. Originally listed for $125 million in June of 2012, the home was the most expensive in America at the time. We recently received an eclectic penthouse design from one of our readers, that seems to blend in perfectly with the shiny Las Vegas. Mark Tracy started the design of this project with the intent to use the finest materials on every surface to create a friendly, inviting, colorful, and extravagant design for a penthouse unit in the Veer Tower of Las Vegas’ modern City Center development. This penthouse‘s primary features include a 13’ tall by 13’ wide floor-wall-ceiling glass mosaic in an ocean blue color scheme with embedded images and bordered by a glass veneer tile. In the middle of the centerpiece mosaic hangs a chandelier encased in a blue glass cube.
